Community Account

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Uncategorized

An important part of data.gov.uk is us working with you to listen and help you build and show great applications for public data. During the developer preview phase, over 2400 people enrolled in the developer discussion group, and their community membership has already been extended to the public beta data.gov.uk functionality.

We are now opening up that community to new members. Once registered, community members can:

  • Submit contributions to the site discussion forum
  • Create, edit and save new pages on the project wiki
  • Submit comments across the site on blog posts, applications and ideas
  • Contact other members for private discussions

You can sign up as a community member via at data.gov.uk/user/register; the ‘Log in / Sign up’ links also appear on the right hand navigation across the site. You will need to choose a user name and supply an e-mail address. We will then send you an e-mail to verify your e-mail address and to tell you how to choose and confirm a password.

Once registered you will be able to add additional information about yourself to your profile if you wish;, such as an avatar and popular social media links. These will be linked from contributions you make to the site.

Please note that you do not need to join the community in order to browse the site or use the data - just go ahead and do it. We've moved the login form from the main navigation because of feedback - the "log in" link now takes you to a separate login form.

Members of the developer preview should already be members of the data.gov.uk community, and we e-mailed them separately about the transition before the launch of the beta. If you were a member of the developer preview you will not be able to re-register with the same e-mail address - if you have lost your password you can reset it through the "lost password" function of the login panel by using the e-mail address you originally registered.

Life would be a lot easier for users if each of the data tables could have the form of measure - rate per XX

The Data.gov.uk site offers free access and use of discrete datasets while withholding sensitive material.

However, mashing of multiple sources might cconceivably produce an ultimate document or application which jeopardised sensitive areas of public sector process, or compromised the defence of the realm.

Is it envisaged to have a private postbox facility whereby a user could advise of intended area of
mashing, and request clearance, in order to obviate such inadvertent compromise?
