In addition to the democratic argument proposed by Prof Shadbolt, the provision of public data through standard interfaces and taxonomies will enable the creation of new markets for information services. This will help the growth of the private sector in the UK.

We, at the Centre for Information Leadership at City University London are looking at how we can contribute in this area.

Can you explain further with examples how you think government data can help the growth of the private sector.
