Open Data User Group (ODUG) – Membership Refresh – September 2013

Posted by: , Posted on: - Categories: Government

Thank you to everyone who applied to become a member of ODUG for our second year. We had a huge response with many very strong candidates, so much so that we will be asking those of you who were not successful this time around to continue to be involved as part of a wider informal network. We plan to keep the new network updated by email, and will invite some people to help us with advice on specific business cases and issues on a topic by topic basis.

The selections for the new membership have now been agreed and I am very pleased to say that Bob Barr (Manchester Geomatics), Gesche Schmid (Local Government Association), Dominique Lazanski (Taxpayer’s Alliance), Paul Malyon (Experian), Jacqui Taylor (Flying Binary) and Jeni Tennison (Open Data Institute) have all been re-appointed to ODUG for the second year. The new members joining the group will be Charlie Boundy (BAE Systems/Detica), Paul Fenton (PFC Ltd), Alex Kafetz (ZPB Associates), Harvey Lewis (Deloitte), John Murray (Chestnut Data Services Ltd), Duncan Ross (Teradata), Tom Smith (OCSI), Giuseppe Sollazzo (St George’s, University of London) and Carlos Somohano (Data Science London). This means that the group this year will have a slightly stronger business and technical data use focus, across both large and small organisations, intend to help us strengthen the case for the wider commercial availability of Open Data to help drive growth and innovation.

Our first meeting is scheduled for later this week and we will continue to publish our minutes and actions on data.gov.uk. You can also continue to follow us on Twitter @oduguk, or by following individual ODUG members on Twitter.

I would like to extend grateful thanks to the ODUG members who have stepped down this year who all helped make a really positive contribution to the open data agenda. The people are: Jenni Campbell, Mick Cory, Sarah Hitchcock, Andrew Mackenzie, Adam Tickell, Chris Royles, Adam Tickell and Roger Taylor.

A fantastic group focused on the development of value from open data to fuel the growth in UK innovation and technology. It was an amazing and inspirational experience being part of the team. I look forward to seeing the continued results from being so focused on the value and use-cases for Open Data. Good luck to the whole team.
